WTO and China's Responses in the Regulation of the New Media

Special Regulation on New Media

Piracy Problem in China

While the Internet-led new media is developing rapidly in China, China is the number 2 country that has the Highest Software Piracy Rates . The Chinese have a very vague and distaining concept of intellectual property (IP). IP rights in China include patents, trademarks and copyright. Despite the recent rush in the formulation of laws and the government's effort to promote respect for IP, the Chinese still do not fully appreciate the concept. According to latest estimate, 90% of all audio-visual projects and more than 90% of software in China are pirated. People do not feel morally or legally guilty of using pirated products. China is requested to implement Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights Agreement in full from the date of accession.
